Jordan Millar is a 25 year old singer/songwriter based in Sydney. After putting out a heap of EPs he’s just released his second full length album. Tomatrax caught up with Jordan to ask a few questions.

What made you want to be a musician?

I grew up in a musical household, so I kinda just fell into it i guess.

You played a few instruments before settling on the guitar, is there any instrument you’ve wanted to play but haven’t yet?

I wish i could play the Cello actually. There’s something about that instrument that i find really intriguing.

You’ve played in a number of bands before now going solo, how does playing solo compare to being in a band?

They’re both totally different beasts really. There’s a lot of freedom in being a solo act, both musically and behind the scenes. But the camaraderie that you feel when you’re on stage with a bunch of your friends and you’re rocking out, that really is second to none.

You released a heap of EPs over the past few years, what made you decide to release a full length this time round?

Budgets and time. Its been a long enough wait in between albums for my fans, but I had to wait until I had the budget to do it properly before I could actually put it together.

Where did the name Cold Lights On Curious Minds come from?

It was a line in one of my songs that didn’t make the album, but i really liked it and it stuck in my head.

Where did you get the inspiration for the Walking on me video?

That was all in my director. We wanted to a performance clip, and he had this idea for a location after he’d been surfing up on the north coast, so I put it in his hands.

You’re about to go on the Cold Lights On A Modern Life National Tour, what can people expect from your show?

They can expect a whole bunch of good times! Some similar stuff to what I’ve done for them in past, but then with the band its a whole different beast, so it’s going to be a lot of fun throwing that onto people and seeing how they react. Heaps of good beats and good vibes all round.

According to your site every CD ordered is signed, is it hard to sign every Cd that gets mailed out?

Nope.

Do you ever listen to your own music?

Nope – When its done, its done and then I put it to bed.

What music do you listen to?

HEAPS of stuff. At the moment i’m flogging the new Local Natives album, the new JAmie Lidell record and the new JT album. All very different, all very interesting and all very good.

What do you plan on doing after the tour?

After the tour I’m going to be super busy with my side project for a little while, and then i’m going to take some time off for a holiday before i get back on the road again and start writing for album number 3!
